JET STREAM SCALDER
The purpose of the Jetstream scalder is loosening the feathers from the skin of the chicken. This process is called scalding. Scalding is used as preparation before plucking. The machine is preceding the pluckers in the slaughter department of a poultry processing plant.
The chicken is led through the scalder hanging vertically by its legs from the shackle of the overhead conveyor. In the scalder, the chicken is immersed in a warm water bath. At the bottom side, the scalder is provided with upwards directed nozzles. These nozzles generate a vertically upwards directed flow of scald water. At the top side, the scalder is provided with reversing guides. These guides directed the stream of scald water downwards over the chicken. So a spiralled stream of scald water is obtained. This results in an effective heat transfer to the skin of the chicken and a homogenous temperature distribution of the scald water. After some time the follicles are weakened. At the end of the scalder the feathers can be easily removed by mechanical rubber fingers. Via the overhead conveyor the chicken is led to the plucker street, the next processing step in the slaughter department. At the front side, the water is recirculated, filtered and filled up with water. Next the water is reinjected inside the scalder via the nozzles.
